My beloved and dear Anton,
Since you’ve been away we have remained under the power of the Russians even still. You thought by now you could return home and I’d send you a letter letting you know when it was safe to do so. But home isn’t home yet. The Soviet Union still rules over us with an iron fist despite our many civil wars.
The Holodomor genocide may be over but it’s taken its toll under Stalin’s orders. World War II has already claimed many lives. And Stalin’s life has already come to pass. Now we’re divided and unsure of where this country is headed.
But as you well know, I have been around for all of this and somehow survived. Thank the Hospod. But even if it were not so, the land has its secrets and through whispers and mourning it bleeds out for all to see because the land remembers. The land always remembers.
